From 2025, pets can travel in the cabin: ENAC says goodbye to the cargo hold for dogs and cats over 10 kg

A historic turning point in the world of Pet-Friendly travel: from May 2025 even medium-large pets will be able to travel in the cabin next to their humans.

The decision comes from an official resolution of ENAC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, and marks an epochal change for millions of families traveling with animals.

What’s really changing

Until now, only dogs and cats under 8–10 kg were allowed in the cabin. All others were forced to travel in the cargo hold—a solution that was often a source of stress, anxiety, and health risks for the animals.

With this new resolution, this limit is finally being overcome:

👉 Even pets over 10 kg will be able to fly in the cabin, under specific safety conditions.

In-Cabin Travel Rules

According to ENAC’s announcement, in-cabin transport will be permitted provided that:

• The pet travels in an approved carrier.

• The carrier is secured to the seat using specific anchoring systems.

• The seat is by the window.

• Aisle seats are not allowed.

• Seating near emergency exits is strictly prohibited.

These rules are designed to ensure safety, order, and comfort for both animals and fellow passengers.
