010 - Il tocco di un Pet: come Scrunchie ha risvegliato Priscilla dal coma

Sometimes, words are not needed.

A presence is enough.

A breath nearby.

A muzzle brushing against a hand. This is what happened to Priscilla Timmons, 39, who was placed in a medically induced coma following a massive pulmonary embolism and three cardiac arrests. Her prognosis was almost zero.

Then came Scrunchie, a Golden Retriever serving in a Pet Therapy program.

A gesture that changed everything

During a ward visit at Memorial Hospital West, Scrunchie approached Priscilla’s bed and gently nudged her hand with his muzzle.

In that instant, something happened.

Priscilla’s fingers began to move.

For the doctors, it was a phenomenon defined as “medically unexplainable.”

For those who love animals, it was confirmation of something we often feel but cannot always explain: the bond with a pet can overcome invisible barriers.

From the hospital ward to rebirth

Today, Priscilla is back home.

She walks, she works, and she tells her story as a testament to hope and rebirth.

Scrunchie, meanwhile, continues his silent mission: bringing comfort, calm, and smiles to hospital wards alongside the other dogs in the Pet Therapy program.

He doesn’t seek applause.

He does what he does best: being there.

The profound value of Pet Therapy

Episodes like this remind us how much an animal's presence can have a real impact on people's emotional and physical well-being.

Pet Therapy does not replace medicine.

It accompanies it.

It humanizes it.

It brings it closer.
